Summer Camp Activity Descriptions

Judo

Judo is a Japanese Martial Art and Olympic sport. In this class, Students will learn the basics of Kodokan Judo. They will learn to roll and fall safely and will practice basic Judo standing throws (Tachi Waza), Ground Techniques (Ne Waza), as well as some self-defense techniques, all in a fun and safe environment. Students will also learn about Japanese traditions and terms related to the practice of Judo. Each class will start with short games and will teach important Judo values such as respect, discipline, and mutual welfare. All our instructors are advanced degree black belts and accomplished national & international champions. Please come and join us to discover this great sport and international community!

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ)

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is a martial art derived from traditional Japanese Ju-Jutsu, the budo of the Samurais. It was perfected in Brazil as a ground fighting discipline focusing on immobilizing your opponent using joint locks and submissions. Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) is a great discipline to learn for self-defense and to develop self-confidence. This class is a great introduction for everyone seeking to learn Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. The students will learn fundamental Jiu-jitsu techniques such as movement, positioning, guarding and basic submissions, all under the expert supervision of our BJJ Sensei. 

Wrestling

Wrestling is an Olympic fighting discipline dating back to early civilization. During this session, our students will learn Greco-Roman style wrestling. We will start with basic stance, movement and pins and move into dynamic leg and body take downs technique. No prior knowledge of Wrestling is required, and we will cover all basics in this session, emphasizing on good form and movements and learning some awesome ways to defend ourselves along the way.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What does my child need to bring to camp?

A: We recommend lunch, a water bottle, a backpack (with name in permanent marker), sunscreen, jacket or sweatshirt, and comfortable shoes to play outside. Those staying in the afternoon should also bring a book. Video games, tablet and other screen devices will not be allowed.

 

Q: will lunch provided?

A: Lunch will not be provided. Children staying for the whole day should bring a bagged lunch. Children staying for a half day can bring lunch and eat with the rest of the group at 12pm, before pick-up. Children staying for after care should bring some extra food/snack. All children are welcome to bring snacks for the day.

 

Q: Do you provide early care & after care?

A: Yes. Early care arrival begins at 8:00am and late care departure is 5:30pm. Our regular judo classes start about 4:30pm, children staying for late care are welcome to participate in our beginner judo class for no additional cost.

 

Q: Does my child need to know judo, Brazilian Jiu-jitsu or Wrestling?

A: No. All our sessions will cover the basic of the disciplines, and will be appropriate for new students.

 

Q: What does my child need to wear?

A: Your child should be dressed appropriately to exercise. Comfortable closing is recommended as well as comfortable sports shoes. For the Judo and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu session we recommend bringing a gi (uniform) if your child have one otherwise, we will borrow them one for the session. No need to purchase one for the camp.

 

Q: Who are the staff?

A: Sensei Cody and Sensei Adham, Will be running the daily activities. They are combining more than 20 years of experience teaching martial arts to kids of all levels and ages. Brazilian Jiu-jitsu and Wrestling activities will be ran at the dojo by our partners and under our staff supervision. Additionally, we will utilize the help of our Sempais (Older role-models dojo students) to run the activities alongside our Senseis.
